Travel Versions 1991 - 2000 (UK)
1991
Magnetic Pocket
Ref. #44023
Manufacturer:
Waddingtons / Tonka
Dimensions of the portfolio:
1.5 x 10.5 x 18 cm
This edition is like a notebook. The red portfolio is packed in a cover that with a cut-out window. When the portfolio is put back in its cover the gold-printed word Monopoly appears.
The back of the cover shows a picture of the board with all the attributes. The attributes are stored in a little drawable tray that have to be put somewhere by playing the game on a journey.
The flat tokens, houses and hotels do stick on the surface of the board, but there are no facilities for the small and clumsy money, Chance and Community Chest cards as well as the property cards, so that these things have to be hand held.

Magnetic Pocket Tax Free
Ref/ No. 44025
Manufacturer: Waddingtons / Tonka

1994
Travel Monopoly
Manufacturer: Waddingtons / Tonka
Ref. 44651
Dimensions of the box: 24.5 x 24.5 cm
This is the most clumsy version of a travel edition I've ever met. If you do it the right way everything is okay, but in case you by accident open the four parts case on the wrong way all equipment fall on the floor.
You ought to put the set into use as follows:
- 1. Keep the red box with the Monopoly sticker upwards.
- 2.Pull out one of the two drawers from aside.
- 3. Pull out the "bottom" (playing area) and position it on top of the case.
- 4. Finally pull out the other drawer with equipment and you're ready to play.
The 6 tokens, 32 houses and 16 hotels are flat and will be kept on the board by a snap-on system. More than 1 token or house may rest on the same space by stacking them on top of each other. Of course the cards and banknotes are very small and therefore not very handy in use.
1997
Travel
Ref: 14248 102
Manufacturer: Waddingtons / Tonka / Hasbro
Dimensions of the case: 5 x 12 x 18 cm
Three years later than in most European countries Waddingtons also introduces the "red case, made in China". The only advantage of this late issue is the fact that the banknotes are of the "1996 model", i.e. without any mention of copyright, while in the upper part of the circle "Monopoly with Uncle Pennybags" is printed in a black bar. (On the cardboard however still the old banknotes are shown.)
This variant is a well-reflected and practical travelling companion indeed. The tokens can be fixed on each space but not more than just one. That means that the next player landing on the same street has to move one step ahead. Only on the corners is sufficient space for 4 players to stay. There are also 4 holes per street for the houses and hotels.
There are no Chance and Community Chest cards. Instead three dice have to be thrown and the instruction mentioned in the table with the corresponding number to be carried out. Instead of a free ticket to leave Jail you get one of the 6 keys.
