The Howard de Walden Estate is situated in the West End of London, and comprisies approximately 90 acres, bordered by Wigmore Street to the south, Marylebone Road to the north, Marylebone High Street to the west and Hallam Street to the east. The Estate's 900 buildings include some of th finest Georgian architectuyre in London and are a harmonius blend of residential accommodation, shops, restaurants, offices, medical buildings, schools and other occupiers. It is perhaps best known as the home to the medical area of Harley Street, and award-winning shopping destination Marylebone High Street.
Thge history of the area can be traced back to 1086 when it was referred to in the Domesday Book. At that time, a fresh water stream called the Tyburn became the focal point for a Manor (known as the Manor of Tyburn). As the years progressed and due to the increases in population, this small hamlet transformed slowly and gently into what is today known as Marylebone Village.
The Howard de Walden family has owned the Estate for over 100 years and their philosophy has been to develop and improve the area to benefit the local community with a view to the future, whilst maintaining its strong historical heritage.
