Edition: CORRUPT MONOPOLY
Publisher: Ladislav Horacek - Praha - 1990?
Dimensions of the box: ?
The game:
There was an article published in April 1991 in the Dutch newspaper "Haagse Courant" telling about a rage in at that age Tjechoslovakia called CORRUPT MONOPOLY.

A Peter Sabach, cultural-psycologist in Prague, designed this new variant on Monopoly, together with his friend printer-publisher Ladislav Horacek. It came on the market in a circulation of 75,000 for the paltry sum of US$ 1.50!

All about this game can in fact be said in but one sentence: "The winner is a master in surviving in a socialist society. He controls lying and cheating, buttering up and lickspittling to perfection."
The game is based on tactics used by so many in the former socialist countries of eastern Europe to hold off the authorities.

ARE YOU, READER OF THIS STORY, BY ANY CHANCE THE LUCKY OWNER OF SUCH A SET? If so, please contact me!

Edition: Dostihy a Sazky, without ref.
………..(= Horse-show and wagers)Publisher: DINO & Ravensburger - 1990?
Dimensions of the box: 35.6 x 36.7 cm
……of the gameboard: 46.6 x 46.6 cm
The game:
This set does not look like a Monopoly-like game but we do consider it to be one, because:

also here one has to collect properties, being horses in this
case.
the properties are grouped to a total of 8 colored clusters
(= number of horses per stable?).
the larger the possession the more "visitors" have to pay.
there are also a kind of Chance cards (NAHODA and FINANCE) who influence the course of
the game.
there are 4 TRENER (=trainer) instead of 4 stations, indicated by stopwatches.
there are even 2 utility fields (STAJE (= stable) and PREPRAVA (= transport), with horse transport trucks).

This game is in a box with grip, lid and box makes one whole. In there is a white plastic insert with 10 holes, upon which are the 4 loose parts of the game board. The board is to be put together like a jigsaw-puzzle. From START on (where you receive 1200 Korún) the division corresponds precisely to that of the well-known Monopoly gameboard, viz. 2 properties with inbetween a FINANCE field. Next a "Veterinary tax"-field and after the "Trenér 1" comes the red brown stable, consisting of 3 horses Lady Anne, Pasek and Koran. Instead of in Jail you than land on the halting place Distance. At the end of the second side you'll land on … indeed, a Parking. It is not clear what has to be done on the field "Go to Jail", because the space is not illustrated. Finally the 2 most expensive horses are of the purple stable Narcius and Napoli.
These properties can be built on (?) with a maximum of 4 of 72 small (8mm) or 1 of 18 large (15 mm) yellow, carton chips.

The two-sided with the same horse-design printed banknotes are in the denominations of Korún 20 - 100 - 200 - 400 -1000 - 2000 and 10.000. There is but one (blue)die. There are 6 colored plastic pawns as tokens.

The price of this set amounted to CK 270.- (= US$ 9.-).

Edition: Terno, without ref. no.
Publisher: TERNO/Agropropag - Usti - CZ - 1990?
Dimensions of the box: 24.7 x 48.5 cm
The game:
This game of inland manufacture says in its instructions that it is " … a replica of the previously well-known and popular game BUSINESS".

There are illustrations of some landmarks of the city of Prague on the lid as well as on the centrefield of the gameboard. And that is comprehensible because the properties are also streets and grounds of Prague. Although all streets of the fourth side also occur in the Parker Brothers game they are situated on different places; except the most expensive street Václavské Námestí, which is now next to START as well. It is striking that there are no salesprices mentioned on the board spaces. The (dull) colors of the groups deviate, but also here are 2 groups on each side of the game board. The 4 stations are now successively coach, tramline, underground and ferryboat. There is a jail as well, the bars in the wall are visible, but there is no rascal "Jake the Jailbird"! A little finger in the fourth corner shows the way to jail. On the third corner is a blue sign with a white P.
The back of the forced folded game board is blue green. The innerbox contains a transparent insert with 10 holes for the attributes. The bottom of this set is unmanufactured.

There are but 4 colored, plastic tokens like walking figures on a base. The 15 houses are 2-store-dwellings-with-roof-and-chimney on a base, resp. 3x blue green, 4x yellow, 4x blue and 4x red. It will not be too easy to build hotels because there are only 3 large hotels available, resp. colored blue, yellow and blue green.
The small banknotes have no currency and show the numbers 1 - 5 - 10 - 20 - 50 and 100. On or over START you will collect 200 (Krones?).
Instead of Šance- and Pokladna-cards there are 2x 15 pieces of Terno- and Banka-cards, which have to be drawn at the same spaces as in MONOPOLY. The 2 dice are of wood.

Edition: Standaard, ref.06951CZ122
Publisher: Parker/Tonka Corp. - 1993
Dimensions of the box: 26 x 51 cm
The game:
This is a set out of the Ireland works, so with the fourth side of the game board on the lid, with thereon the "collection of attributes". At the bottom of the box is the well-known color picture of the laughing family.

The back of the gameboard is red as the plastic insert of the innerbox is. Diagonal the green gameboard is the word MONOPOLY in a red bar. The plastic insert (the "bankers tray") has 7 trays for the banknotes, 3 for the cards and 2 for the houses and hotels.
The back side of the Šance cards is printed with a red ?, whereas the Pokladna cards are printed with the blue treasure chest. The banknotes are not as shown on the lid because the "copyright text" in the circle with "Monopoli® - Monopoly® - Monopol®" is replaced by "© 1992 Tonka Corporation". This variant is called "Class B" in this set.
The 10 tokens are of heavy metal and "made in China". The plastic houses do have a chimney, the hotels don't. Both the dice are red.

Edition: Standard, ref.14535122
Publisher: Parker/Tonka Corp./
.................Hasbro Magyarország Kft. - Budapest - 1996
Dimensions of the box: 26.8 x 40.3 x 5.3 cm
.…...of the gameboard: 25.2 x 25.2 cm
The game:
Striking of this edition are the new shapes of the box. Hasbro informed us that it has to do with standardization of the dimensions of all their games. So herewith disappears the long box, we always called so far the STANDARD version. Also special is the fact that the distribution in the Czech Republic is handled by Hasbro - Budapest - Hungary.

In this new box is one red plastic tray with 7 slots for the banknotes, 10 slots for the property deeds and 4 trays for the other equipment. The board is folded in four like in the so called "small box". The back side is red and the play side is blue green. The word Monopoly is in a black frame diagonal the board. The colors of various streets differ from the set of the long box of 1993: de 1st street is brown, the 3rd street is lighter purple, while those of the 7th street are darker green.
The set is made in Ireland and SO it contains a picture of a laughing family on the bottom.
On the game board are the nice looking Šance- and Pokladna cards of this set. It are white cards on which the text in a frame is printed in red. The back of the Pokladna cards is blue with the treasure chest in a yellow field; that of the Šanse cards is red with a ? in a yellow field.
The property cards don't have rounded corners and consequently look like slightly largers (dim.: 56 x 87 mm). The back of this white cards is printed in red.
The banknotes are of the new model, i.e. with a black ribbon with in there "Monopoly with Uncle Pennybags" in the upper part of the circle and, almost invisible, the remark "1996 Tonka Corporation"in the lower right corner.
The 10 tokens are made of pewter (without a mention "made in China" on the plastic bag). The green plastic houses do have a chimney, the red hotels don't. Both the dice are white.

The price of this set amounted to US$ 23.- in May 1999.
