On Monday February 23rd 1998, only a stone's throw away from the famous addresses of Mayfair and Park Lane, Winning Moves UK opened for business and ended London's monopoly on Monopoly!
Now, literally licensed to print money, The Company embarked on a journey around Britain's greatest cities, starting with Edinburgh, Manchester, Newcastle and Birmingham. The aim was to bring together each community's iconic landmarks, streets and institutions, and culminated in the production of Britain's first "City Editions" of Monopoly.
Passing "GO" in December 1998, the launch of Edinburgh Monopoly made national headlines on ITN news, a double-page spread in The Sun, and from nowhere, sales rocketed and the company's short term future was secured.
Over the next 10 tears, the team of 3 in the office in Paddington grew to 21 fine people. 63 editions of the famous game were launched, from counties and towns to Universities and Football Clubs. And, on December 4th 2007, history was made as WMUK produced its millionth Monopoly.
The commemorative "Million" Edition is not only to mark the passing of that milestone, but also to celebrate 10 years of dedication and graft from the team at WMUK and our partners in this success.
This version is very special as it is 1 of only 100 editions ever made.
